NIMLAB Turns 3: Three Years of Building Crypto Infrastructure

11 Oct 2026

On 11 October 2023, NIMLAB was officially registered. Three years later, the company looks very different from the service we started with — but the original idea remains the same: make working with digital assets and traditional financial infrastructure simpler, more reliable and easier to understand.

The last three years have included product launches, thousands of client interactions, payment and exchange integrations, regulatory changes, mistakes, improvements and a significant amount of work that was never visible from the outside.

2026 has been particularly different. Our exchange services are temporarily unavailable while NIMLAB goes through a regulatory and operational transition. But a pause in providing services has not meant a pause in the company itself.

Behind the scenes, development continues: we are improving the software, rebuilding parts of the infrastructure, working on new products and preparing NIMLAB for its next stage.

Where NIMLAB started

When NIMLAB was registered on 11 October 2023, the product was much simpler than it is today. The main focus was crypto-fiat exchange and building a process that could connect digital assets with traditional payment infrastructure without making every transaction unnecessarily complicated for the client.

Very early on, we realised that simply combining several third-party services would not be enough.

If NIMLAB was going to grow, we needed our own operational layer around the product: client management, order processing, KYC and AML workflows, transaction controls, exchange integrations, banking integrations, limits, liquidity management and the internal tools required to bring all of those parts together.

A large part of the last three years has therefore been spent building infrastructure that most clients never directly see.

Three years in a few milestones

Looking back, several moments stand out.

  • 2023 — NIMLAB Core. We built the initial digital asset exchange infrastructure, KYC/AML processes, our internal CRM and the operational systems used to manage clients and orders.

  • 2024 — the first 1,000 clients. Reaching the first thousand clients gave us much more than a number. It gave us real feedback, real operational experience and a much clearer understanding of what people expected from the product.

  • 2025 — SEPA Instant and the first EUR 1 million in service turnover. We expanded our euro payment infrastructure, introduced SEPA Instant support and passed EUR 1 million in service turnover.

  • 2025 — Binance P2P Gold Merchant. NIMLAB reached Binance P2P Gold Merchant status after meeting the relevant volume and service requirements.

  • 2026 — rebuilding for the next stage. Work moved increasingly toward wallets, mobile products, custody infrastructure, compliance technology and preparation for further regulated development in Europe.

These milestones are part of a much longer development process. We have published more detail about completed work and future priorities in the NIMLAB product and regulatory roadmap .

Why NIMLAB is temporarily not providing exchange services

One obvious question needs to be addressed directly: if NIMLAB is developing, why are the services that clients previously used currently unavailable?

In 2026, we began a major transition of our legal and operational infrastructure connected with the new European regulatory environment for crypto-assets.

As part of that process, we made the decision to carry out an organised cessation of our previous operating model rather than try to keep an old structure running while simultaneously rebuilding it.

We explained this decision in our notice on the organised cessation of NIMLAB's current activities .

That decision was not the end of NIMLAB. It was a decision about how the next version of NIMLAB should be built.

Regulation is now part of building the product

The European digital asset market has changed substantially since NIMLAB was founded.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 on Markets in Crypto-Assets — better known as MiCA — introduced a common European framework for crypto-assets and crypto-asset service providers. The main provisions of the regulation became applicable across the European Union on 30 December 2024.

For companies building long-term crypto infrastructure in Europe, regulation can no longer be treated as something separate from the product. Governance, operational resilience, compliance, custody, client protection and internal controls have to be designed into the infrastructure itself.

NIMLAB is preparing its technology, processes and corporate structure for further regulated development in Europe, including work related to MiCA authorisation.

For readers who want to understand the regulatory framework directly from the source, the full regulation is available through EUR-Lex , while the European Securities and Markets Authority provides information on the MiCA authorisation framework for crypto-asset service providers.

What is being built while the service is paused?

This is probably the most important part of the update.

NIMLAB is not spending this period simply waiting for services to become available again. We are using it to work on the product itself.

Telegram Mini App

A NIMLAB wallet Mini App for Telegram has already been built.

The idea is straightforward: give clients access to NIMLAB through an interface they already use every day, without forcing every interaction into a traditional web application. The Mini App is intended to become one part of the wider NIMLAB client ecosystem.

NIMLAB mobile application

The first working version of the NIMLAB mobile app is also ready.

The next stages include testing, UX improvements, integration with the rest of the NIMLAB infrastructure and preparation for future public availability.

Custody infrastructure

We have built infrastructure for receiving, storing and sending digital assets inside NIMLAB.

Historically, exchange products often required users to move between several unrelated services and external wallets. Building custody functionality gives us the technical foundation to make that process more integrated in future versions of NIMLAB.

Risk scoring and transaction monitoring

Some of the most important development happening inside NIMLAB is also the least visible.

We continue improving systems around transaction monitoring, client risk assessment, limits, KYC/AML workflows and internal operational control.

These systems are not features that normally appear on a homepage, but they are essential infrastructure for any financial product that intends to operate at scale and within a regulated environment.

Banking, payment and liquidity infrastructure

Another ongoing area of work is the infrastructure connecting NIMLAB with banks, payment providers, digital asset exchanges and liquidity sources.

Crypto-fiat infrastructure is rarely one integration or one API. A transaction may involve several independent systems: client onboarding, compliance checks, blockchain infrastructure, liquidity, settlement and traditional banking rails.

One of our long-term technical goals is to make those layers work together as one system instead of forcing the client to think about every individual component behind a transaction.

NIMLAB is becoming more than the exchange service we started with

For many of our existing clients, NIMLAB is still associated primarily with crypto-fiat exchange. That is understandable — it was the product through which most people first discovered us.

But the infrastructure we are building today goes further.

Our longer-term direction is to connect digital assets, traditional payments, wallets, liquidity and compliance infrastructure within a single ecosystem.

The current NIMLAB roadmap includes the wallet ecosystem, mobile applications, custody infrastructure, NIMLAB Intelligence, crypto checkout and acquiring, card-related products and further expansion into regulated markets.

Some of these components already exist in working form. Some are still being developed. Others depend on regulatory approvals, external infrastructure or commercial partners.

We think it is important to make that distinction clear.

A roadmap is not a list of promises with guaranteed launch dates. It is the direction in which the product is being developed.

You can follow the current status of individual products and infrastructure projects on the NIMLAB Roadmap .

What three years of operating NIMLAB taught us

The biggest change over these three years is probably not a specific feature or integration.

It is the difference between designing a financial product on paper and operating one with real clients.

Real operations quickly show where a process is too complicated, where automation helps, where it creates additional risk, where clients make mistakes and where internal systems need to give people more control rather than less.

They also teach you that reliability is often built through small improvements rather than one large product launch.

Many parts of NIMLAB today exist because something could have been faster, clearer or more reliable in an earlier version.

We expect that process to continue.

So, when is NIMLAB coming back?

This has been one of the most common questions we have received since temporarily stopping exchange operations.

We understand the question, but we do not want to announce a date before we can genuinely stand behind it.

The return of services depends not only on software development, but also on regulatory, banking and operational work that has to be completed correctly.

What we can say today is simpler:

NIMLAB has not stopped.

The service our clients previously used is temporarily unavailable, but development continues behind it.

The software is being improved. New products are being built. Infrastructure is being expanded. Regulatory work continues.

And everything we learned during our first three years is being used to build the next version of NIMLAB.

Three years later

On 11 October 2023, NIMLAB officially began its journey.

We could use the third anniversary simply to publish a birthday message. But that would not say much about what those three years actually meant.

They meant building the first version of the product. Processing real transactions. Working with real clients. Finding weaknesses. Fixing them. Building our own infrastructure. Adapting when the market changed. And rebuilding again when the regulatory environment changed.

We are proud of what was built during those three years, but we also know how much work remains ahead.

So this anniversary is not really a finish line.

It is simply a good moment to look back at where we started, explain where we are today and continue working on what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who has used NIMLAB, worked with us, sent feedback or simply continued following our progress.

Three years down.
We keep building.
